Example A - Eczematex Forte

A 30-year-old woman has suffered from eczema and asthma since birth. She uses inhalers, Ventolin, and steroids. Since infancy, she has received steroids, which worsened the eczema. She has used steroid creams since age 7. There was relief from eczema during school age, but it worsened at age 20. Upon treatment, the eczema was widespread across the body. The skin was very red, dry, thick, coarse, rough, and itchy. Despite the dryness, some parts of the eczema were occasionally moist. She also suffered from seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and her mouth was often dry. Her tongue was slightly pale, thin, and dry. The pulse was weak, especially in the kidney position.

Diagnosis: A clear case of congenital deficiency of the kidneys and lungs and the immune system. The pulse indicates kidney weakness, and due to the chronic nature of the disease, there is also blood deficiency. The eczema is mainly of the wind-heat type, but there is also involvement of damp/heat.

Treatment: Since eczema is currently the main troubling issue, the treatment should focus on this. The goal is to strengthen the defensive capacity of the lungs and kidneys, release wind from the chest, nourish the blood, clear wind/heat from the skin, and address damp/heat.

The chosen formula will be "Eczematex Forte" especially due to the severe eczema and the combination with damp/heat.

Example B - Eczematex

A 19-year-old woman has been suffering from eczema and asthma since the age of 2. Both conditions are currently active. She uses inhalers, Ventolin, and Becotide (a steroid) daily, and has used steroid creams for eczema in the past. Asthma attacks occur after exposure to cats, and she is sensitive to dust mites. She experiences night sweats and has bowel movements every two days. She is very thin and shy. Her skin is very dry, red, and itchy. Pulse and tongue details are not relevant.

Diagnosis: This is a typical case of atopic asthma and eczema due to deficiency, with a lack of lung/kidney and protective Qi (immunity) in an adult with severe allergies. There is also a deficiency of lung yin, indicated by night sweats and constipation. (A dry cough indicates yin deficiency, lack of fluids, and a weak cough suggests Qi deficiency.)

Treatment Plan: Strengthen the defensive system of the lungs/kidneys, nourish lung yin and the blood, moisturize the skin, and dispel wind from the skin and chest.

Attention should also be given to dietary treatment, which is not detailed here. (Increase fluids but be cautious not to create dampness, as she doesn't have enough Qi to handle phlegm, so moderate intake like soup once a day for a week is advisable.)

The choice of the formula "Eczematex" will address the syndrome of asthma and eczema based on deficiency, according to the treatment plan. (Start with a low dosage.)

Example C - StagnaGon

A 40-year-old woman has suffered from asthma since age 20. The attacks began after severe emotional trauma. She uses Ventolin and steroid inhalers four times a day. She has no background allergies. In addition to asthma, she has nasal congestion with thick yellow phlegm. She reports becoming very anxious and weak under stress. Her hands become cold, and she struggles to function. She also complains of premenstrual tension syndrome (indicating liver Qi stagnation), and she experiences eczema outbreaks with red, itchy, moist lesions in various body areas. Her tongue is red, especially on the sides and tip, with a yellow coating. Her pulse is wiry.

Diagnosis: The non-allergic asthma and its development in adulthood indicate liver disharmony. Prolonged liver Qi stagnation has caused blockage of lung Qi in the chest, leading to asthma. The presence of liver fire is evident in the red tongue, especially on the sides. It also manifests in the thick yellow nasal discharge and eczema with damp/heat.

Treatment: Move liver Qi, clear liver fire, restore lung Qi, calm the mind, and dispel heat/dampness from the skin.

The chosen formula is "StagnaGon"
